Summer is Sweet

Summer cravings.

When it is warm and we want to stay cool and being hydrated is super important. One of the signs of dehydration is to of course be thirsty… but by the time you are thirsty, you have already been dehydrated for awhile. Other signs of dehydration to watch out for are:

  • feeling tired and / or sleepy
  • feeling foggy
  • feeling irritable
  • feeling that it is hard to focus
  • feeling tightness in the body, especially lower back
  • and…sweet cravings

So what do you do when you crave sweetness?

– You might go for the sugar.

But you can of course also remember to drink some water first… and see if the craving goes away.

If you still want sweetness…and sometime we just do. Try some fresh fruit, a green smoothie with a little fruit (too much and you will just crave more sugar), or coconut water which is sweeter and more hydrating that just water. Watermelon is also a nice summer cooler and super hydrating. You can find my watermelon smoothie here. And if you want savory – try the watermelon gazpacho.

You can get a lot more recipes and tools for getting more intimate with your habits, master your cravings and take charge of your health by joining the online program. We get so stuck in trying to know WHAT to eat, when really the question to start with is WHY. Learning how food affects us, how to understand what your body needs, and why you choose the foods you do… even if you had a different plan. This is all part of the process of change. Diets fail us all the time because they are missing the most important ingredient; the human ingredient –  YOU. To know what you need, why you need it and how to get it, is how we integrate self-nourishment into our daily busy lives. Self-care does not come last, it comes first!

And then there are popsicles.

Stay tuned for recipes coming up over the next couple of weeks. We will be stacking them up for you!
